Ranidanga, June 1: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Frontier Headquarters Siliguri (Ranidanga) and 41st Battalion SSB Ranidanga jointly organized a plantation drive at its campus in Ranidanga.

Shrikumar Bandopadhyay, Inspector General, Frontier Siliguri, Thomas Chacko, Deputy Inspector General, Frontier Headquarter Siliguri, Girish Chandra Pandey, Second-in-Command, 41st Battalion, officers and officials from SSB attended the programme during which two hundred saplings were planted.

The plantation drive was organized in accordance with government of India initiatives towards large scale plantation drive in the run upto the World Environment Day to be observed on June 5.

Speaking on the occasion, the Inspector General briefed troops on the importance of trees in our lives and its benefits like providing oxygen, improving air quality, conserving water, supporting wild life and providing shelter. He also stressed upon the need to create awareness amongst people for a pollution free environment through plantation of saplings and caring for them.
