Legendary footballer Chuni Goswami passed away.

Ankur Bhattacharya ; Kolkata , 30 April: Chuni,Goswami, former India International footballer who led the country in 1962 Jakarta Asian Games and won many laurels, died at a nursing home here this evening following massive a cardiac arrest after a protracted illness. He was 82.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee among a host of other pepole expressed their deep grief and condoled the death of Goswami who was also an Executive member of the Mohun Bagan Football club. for long.

In her condolence message the Chief minister wrote in her Twitter handle ‘I am deeply saddened to know that football legend Chuni Goswami is no more. A real star and a football icon, he was amongst the greatest players that Indian football has ever seen. He was a versatile personality who brought many laurels to the country and to Bengal. ‘

Soon in another message she wrote ‘While his demise is a monumental loss to the world of sports and particularly football, Bengal, with a great passion for the sport has lost one of her greatest sons. My deepest condolences to Chuni Goswami’s family, friends and innumerable fans. May his soul rest in peace.’
