Former MP and educationist Krishna Bose Passed away

Kolkata, 22 February: Krishna Bose,renowned educationist, former MP and the wife of Sisir Kumar Bose, the nephew of Nejaji Subhas Chandra Bose,died at a leading private hospital here this morning after a brief illness.


She was 89 and is survived by her two sons- Professor Sugata Bose, and Professor. Sumantra Bose – besides hosts of relatives and friends and students.


Dr Bose who was admitted to hospital last week after suffering cerebral infarct (stroke) in her South Kolkata residence,remained in a critical condition since then. She breathed her last at around 10- 30 a.m today.
As the news of her death spread large number of people rushed to the hospital to pay their last respect to the departed soul.


A three time member of Parliament between 1996 and 2004,first as a member of Congress then of the Trinamool Congress, Dr Bose was known for her in depth research on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.


As the Chief of ‘Netaji Research Bureau’ for over four decades, Dr Bose was the professor of History in Kolkata’s well known City College for a long time before moving into politics.


She also authored a large number of Research papers on various subjects and wrote a number of books on different stages of Indian history, particularly those about the role of Netaji Subhas Bose.


Born in 1930 in Dhaka in the then East Pakistan and the daughter of a well known constitutional expert Charu Chandra Chowdhury, Dr Bose married Professor Sisir Kumar Bose, the only son of the elder brother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose – Sarat Kumar Bose in 1955.


As an MP she was also once the Chairperson of the Committee on External Affairs.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has deeply condoled the demise of Dr. Bose.
