Bengal Governor handed over cheque of Rs 5 lakhs to the martyrs of Pulwama attack

Ankur Bhattacharya ; Howrah/ Kolkata , 3 March: As promised last year,West Bengal Governor West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar today handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the wife of martyred CRPF Head Constable Bablu Santra at her residence at Bauria village in neighbouring Howrah district.
Bablu Santra was one of the 40 CRPF personnel martyred in the Pulwama terrorist attack on 14 February .2019.

Another CRPF jawan from the state Sudip Biswas also met his martyrdom in the same attack and the Governor would also visit his residence in Nadia district to hand over a similar amount from his Discretionary Fund to his family on 20 March.

The Governor, accompanied by his wife visited the residence of Bablu Santra this afternoon and spent about half an hour in the house talking to Santra’s wife and other members of his family including his mother and daughter before handing over the Cheque to Santra’s wife.

Mrs Dahankar also presented the wife and mother of Bablu Santra shawls and some gifts to his 7 year old daughter.

Later participating in a programme, organised by the CRPF at the village, the Governor said last year he had decided to honour the families of both the martyrs from the state in view of their extreme courage and sacrifice for the nation.

He also complimented the CRPF Special DG Kuldeep Singh for organising the programme in cooperation with the local people and urged the youth to join the nation building programme through such organisations and once again hailed the contributions of Head Constable Bablu Santra and Constable Sudip Biswas.

” it is our national duty to take care of the families of our martyrs who have laid their life for our safety and the country’s integrity. We must always salute them’, the Governor said at the programme.

Governor Dhankar will visit Nadia on 20 March to handover a similar cheque to the family of Martyr Sudip Biswas,Raj Bhavan sources informed here this evening.
