Finally, 22 Apache Guardian attack helicopters handed to the IAF (Indian Air Force) by United States aerospace major Boeing.
After receiving AH- 64E (I) Apache Guardian Helicopter IAF Spokesperson group captain Anupam Banerjee said “the first AH-64E (I) – Apache Guardian helicopter was formally handed over to Indian Air Force at Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, the US on May 10.”
On the other hand, a senior official has said it is a significant step towards modernization of the force chopper fleet. It also fulfills the future requirements of the IAF.
AH-64E (I) Apache Guardian is flown by US Army, and it is leading multi-role attack helicopter.
The multi-billion helicopter signed by IAF with the US government and Boeing Ltd in September 2015. The first batch of 22 Apache Guardian is scheduled to be shipped to India by July this year.
In a Statement IAF said “Selected aircrew and ground crew have undergone training facilities at US Army base Fort Rucker, Alabama. These personnel will lead the operation of the Apache fleet in the IAF.” It further added that the attack helitcopter has the capacity to carry out precision attack at standoff range and operate in hostile airspace with threats from grounds”
