A city full of happiness and with great history, which is known as Kolkata. 3 city together become the modern city Kolkata and the ancient capital of India. But the British called it Calcutta.


But there were another ancient name too. The name was Banga. The name of bengal is derived from the ancient kingdom of Banga the earliest record of which date back to the Mahabharata epic in the first millennium BCE.

Now, somewhere get to know from where Kolkata came from.

Now a question rise “why is it called the city of joy”?

Kolkata has rightly been called the city of joy by the French author Dominique Lapierre . Kolkata know how to enjoy- by Durga puja, Christmas or New year celebrations. Christmas hold a special place in the festival calendar of Kolkata. After all, it was the first British India capital. But apart from this city of joy get some other nickname too those are City of palace, Cultural capital of India, Haven of the ages last but not least Gateway of Eastern India.


At a time Kolkata was also an unfound city, that’s why Job Charnock get the chance to find our city of joy. On 24th August 1686, Job who was the accredited with the founding of Calcutta first came to the village Sutanuti (sovabazar) as the representative of the British east India company to establish a factory Sutanuti (sovabazar) at that time it was the hub of textile industry. That’s why now it’s the 6th city of India about GDP.
