Kolkata, 18 February: Well known Bengali film actor and former MP of Trinamool Congress Tapas Pal died at a private hospital in Mumbai this morning after a protracted illness. He was 61 and is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Born on 29 September 1958, Pal became famous for his memorable performance in popular Bengali movie ‘Dadar Kirti’. Later he also performed in a number of other popular and hit movies including those like Saheb, Anurager Choya,Surer Akash,Chokher Alo, Amar Bandhan and Bhalobasa Bhalobasa among many others to become a household name.
A Filmfare Award winner for his role in Saheb in 1981, Pal also worked in Bollywood films for sometime.
But later he got involved in the infamous Rose Valley Chit Fund scam in 2016 and was arrested by CBI. He spent over a year in jail in Bhubaneswar before being released on bail on health ground.
After his release from jail Pal distanced himself both from politics and films and led a secluded life.
